Privacy policy
This policy covers the packbook iOS app and the packbook.co web service (together, “packbook”, “we”). The short version: your gear library lives on your device, we run no ads and no analytics, and we never sell your personal information.
Data in the iOS app
Your gear library (items, photos, stickers, packs, kits, and packing lists) is stored locally on your device. We do not run accounts in the iOS app and we do not keep a copy of your library on our servers.
Camera access is used only to photograph your gear and turn it into stickers. Photos stay on your device except as described below.
AI gear identification. When you scan an item, the photo of that item (with the background removed) is uploaded to an image-hosting provider and shared with our service providers so they can identify it: a reverse-image search provider (SerpApi, querying Google Lens) and an AI provider (Anthropic’s Claude) that picks the best product match. Text from your packing lists (item names, trip name) may also be sent to Anthropic for features like the pre-trip Ready Check. This data is used to return results to you. We do not use it to build advertising profiles. Each provider handles data under its own policy: Anthropic · SerpApi.
Data on the web service
Account. Signing in at packbook.co (Google sign-in or an email magic link) gives us your email address, used solely to authenticate you and manage the packs you publish. Authentication and the database are provided by Supabase.
Published packs are public. When you publish a trip or kit, that page (packbook.co/t/…) is visible to anyone with the link and may appear in the public explore gallery. It contains whatever you chose to publish: gear names, images, weights, notes. You can unpublish or delete a share at any time from your shares page.
Cookies. We use session cookies for sign-in only. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Hosting. The site runs on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and operations.
What we don't do
No ads. No analytics SDKs. No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
Your rights (including CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to request deletion, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither), and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We extend the same rights to everyone.
To delete your data: iOS app data is deleted by deleting the app (it lives only on your device). For the web service, delete individual shares from your shares page, or email support@packbook.co to delete your account and everything tied to it. We respond within 45 days.
Children
packbook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes to how we handle your data will be called out in the app or on the site.
