Common questions
- Scanning isn't identifying my gear
- Gear identification needs an internet connection. The photo is matched against real product listings. If you’re online and it still misses, try a photo with the item filling more of the frame on a plain background. You can always name the item yourself; scanning is a shortcut, not a requirement.
- Where is my data stored?
- Your gear, photos, packs, and kits live on your iPhone. If you are signed in, your gear library is also backed up to our servers so it follows you to a new phone. Packs and kits are not backed up, so deleting the app still loses those unless your device backup has them. Packs you explicitly publish are stored on packbook.co as public pages. Signed out, nothing leaves the phone except the photos we send off to identify a piece of gear.
- How do I remove a pack I shared?
- Sign in at packbook.co/shares and delete the share. The public page disappears immediately.
- How do I delete my account or my data?
- In the app, open Settings from your profile and tap Delete account. It runs immediately and removes your backed-up gear and its images, your published pages, your profile, and the account itself. It cannot be undone. The gear on your phone stays, and deleting the app removes that local copy. If you no longer have the app installed, email us and we’ll do it for you.
